Our History

Sherington Pre-School was established over 40 years ago and is a traditional, family focused pre-school in a village location. We are proud to be a community-based organisation. We work in partnership with families to ensure that children are fully supported to learn through play, develop friendships and skills that allow them to fully enjoy their time at preschool, prepare them for school and life beyond.

What makes our pre-school different

Smaller than average adult to child ratios allow our children to develop at their own pace, with the support of a designated keyperson. Thanks to these ratios we can tailor activities to suit the individual interests and needs of each of our children.

We take a child-initiated approach, known as In The Moment Planning, enabling staff follow the child’s unique personal interests to implement “teachable moments” and extend opportunities for learning without intruding or disturbing what the child has chosen to do.  “When children are allowed to select, where, when and what to play, they are truly invested in their play, they become deeply involved and make dramatic progress”.

Our Aims

  • Provide high quality care and education for children from the age of 2 years old until they are ready to go to school
  • Work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop
  • Add to the life and well-being of the local community
  • Offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity

The Early Years Foundation Stage

EYFS sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Safeguarding

We are committed to building a ‘culture of safety’ in which children, young people and vulnerable adults are protected from abuse and harm in all areas of our service delivery. Our trained designated person who co-ordinates child protection issues is: Kerry Kitchen and Nicole Freeden as Deputy.

Comments From Our Parents

“I would always choose Sherington preschool over another option. My little boy came to the preschool with a few challenges, but has come on in leaps and bounds, and is a much more confident child for his time here.”

“I  couldn’t  ask  for  a  better  place  for  her  to  start  her  school  journey.”

“It’s  a  very  happy  place  and  my  3  year  old  has  started  to  form  real friendships,  as  have  I  with  other  mums.”

“I  feel  so  lucky  to  have  such a great,  friendly  caring  bunch  of  people  look  after  my  children.”

“The environment  is  lovely  and  well  thought  out.”

“Noticeable  difference  in  his  social  skills,  he  is  so  happy  to  make  friends  without  me.”

“My child is becoming  more  independent  and  learning  new  things  while  having  fun  and  being  cared  for.”

At Sherington Pre-School your child will..

  • be given generous care and attention, because of our ratio of qualified staff to children, as well as volunteer parent helpers
  • take forward her/his learning and development by building on what she/he already knows and can do
  • be encouraged to explore and be adventurous in a safe environment
  • have a dedicated “key person” who makes sure each child makes satisfying progress
